Overview

Thomas J. “T.J.” Banks is a registered patent attorney who advises clients across the full spectrum of intellectual property law, with a practice that integrates IP transactions, litigation, and prosecution. He helps companies protect, commercialize, and strategically leverage their intellectual property assets to drive business growth and maximize enterprise value.

T.J. has significant experience handling intellectual property and technology-driven transactions, including licensing agreements, SaaS and technology agreements, joint development arrangements, patent, trademark, and copyright assignments, and the IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He regularly conducts IP due diligence and counsels clients on portfolio strength, risk allocation, and post-transaction integration and maintenance. His transactional work is informed by his litigation and prosecution background, allowing him to identify potential risks early and structure agreements that are both practical and durable.

In addition, T.J. is an experienced litigator who represents clients in intellectual property and commercial disputes in federal courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including Inter Partes Review proceedings and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board matters. His experience also includes advising on unfair competition, e-commerce enforcement, and brand protection strategies. This litigation background informs his transactional approach, enabling him to anticipate risk and structure practical, defensible agreements.

T.J. also maintains an active patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution practice, helping clients develop and manage IP portfolios aligned with their broader business objectives. His integrated experience across transactions, litigation, and prosecution allows him to deliver strategic, business-focused counsel tailored to each client’s industry and growth strategy.

During law school, T.J. served as a Senior Associate of the Stetson Law Review and competed on Stetson’s Moot Court Board. He also served as a Federal Judicial Intern for the Honorable James S. Moody Jr., the Honorable Thomas B. McCoun, III, and the Honorable Michael G. Williamson in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and worked as both a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant.
