Jason brings nearly two decades of experience in white-collar and national security matters to bear in helping clients navigate complex enforcement and compliance challenges. His practice focuses on criminal defense, investigations, crisis management, and compliance matters.
Jason’s arrival at the firm follows nearly a decade of service at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he spearheaded landmark investigations and prosecutions involving export controls, sanctions, foreign influence, cyber intrusions, terrorism, and economic espionage. An experienced trial attorney, Jason held a leadership role in some of the Department’s most complex and high-profile trials and supervised multiple teams of prosecutors across dozens of trials. He has been honored with multiple awards for his time in government, including the United States Attorney General’s Award for Extraordinary Contribution in 2024, and multiple Assistant Attorney General Awards for Excellence in Prosecution from the National Security Division in 2019.
In private practice at a global law firm, Jason represented multinational corporations and individuals in global investigations, compliance reviews, criminal defense, and civil litigation. He represented clients before the DOJ, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in enforcement matters involving alleged violations of the federal securities laws, criminal antitrust laws, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Jason also has significant experience counseling clients across a range of industries on compliance programs and internal controls, including technology, energy, and natural resources companies.
Experience
Representative Matters
- Prosecuted two individuals involved in the illegal export of night and thermal vision components to Russia, which resulted in an open guilty plea by the lead defendant on the second day of jury selection.
- Charged two individuals with economic espionage violations and conspiracy for the theft of turbine-related trade secrets from a U.S. government contractor.
- Prosecuted multiple individuals in a state-sponsored conspiracy to access private computer systems and steal proprietary aviation-related intellectual property from U.S. and foreign companies.
- Led the investigation into an employee of a social media company who was working on behalf of a foreign government to collect user data of individuals critical of the regime.
- Led investigations into export and sanctions violations by large networks of foreign companies working to procure U.S.-origin items, including supplies and equipment used in weapons of mass destruction.
- Charged a foreign state-linked actor in connection with a terrorism plot targeting a former senior U.S. government official.
- Secured registrations under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by companies engaged in foreign influence on behalf of Russian state media.
- Secured Deferred Prosecution Agreements and registration under FARA from two individuals for unregistered lobbying and public relations activity on behalf of a foreign government.
- Represented executives of two separate automotive parts companies in connection with criminal investigations by the Department of Justice concerning alleged violations of the antitrust laws.
- Represented a global bank in connection with an investigation by the SEC into alleged FCPA violations in connection with the bank’s hiring practices in Asia-Pacific.
- Represented a global bank and its employees in connection with an insider trading investigation by the DOJ, the SEC, and FINRA.
- Represented a global financial institution in connection with an investigation by the SEC into its trade surveillance function.
- Represented a broker-dealer and its employees in connection with an investigation by FINRA into the operation of auctions to liquidate collateralized debt obligations during the global financial crisis.
- Represented a global bank in connection with an investigation by a non-U.S. authority into hospitality and entertainment practices in the Asia-Pacific.
- Represented a pharmaceutical company in defense of a civil action brought by the Republic of Iraq arising out of the company’s participation in the United Nations Oil-For-Food Program.
- Led a multi-year compliance review of a global technology company on behalf of the government-appointed independent compliance monitor following the company’s resolution of civil and criminal FCPA violations.
