Amundsen Davis Strengthens Its Midwest Presence, Opening Cleveland Office and Expanding in Columbus

Amundsen Davis LLC, a leading full-service law firm, is proud to announce its continued strategic growth with the opening of an office in Cleveland, Ohio. With it, nine attorneys and two paralegals join the firm’s Cleveland and Columbus offices. Amundsen Davis now has more than 25 legal professionals in the Ohio market.

The firm now operates across 13 offices in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin, offering responsive, localized service while drawing on the resources of more than 260 attorneys across the region.

Eight transportation and logistics attorneys join the firm’s northeast Ohio business litigation team, Partner Christopher Congeni and Associate Brinton Resto, in Cleveland. This includes four defense partners: Robert Boroff, Daniel Bray, Tim Roth, and Matt Smartnick. Known for their work representing prominent transportation and logistics companies, they bring decades of combined experience and strengthen the firm’s capabilities in this critical practice area.

Rob Boroff is a skilled litigator with experience trying cases to verdict in Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. He has been defending domestic and international motor carriers, freight brokers, logistics providers, transportation network companies, and rideshare companies against catastrophic commercial transportation accidents and cargo loss claims for nearly two decades. Rob also serves as national counsel for numerous trucking and freight broker companies.

Daniel Bray has a national reputation as “go-to” counsel for leading garbage and waste management carriers, as well as major heavy truck and aviation companies. He has successfully tried cases to verdict in jurisdictions across the country, including Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Indiana, and Florida. His litigation portfolio spans complex claims involving workplace injury, product liability, civil conspiracy, fraud, and workers’ compensation death benefits.

Tim Roth has more than three decades of experience and is known nationally for zealously representing transportation companies and their drivers following major trucking accidents.  His practice focuses on the defense of lawsuits involving wrongful death, personal injury, and cargo claim liability. In addition, Tim serves as national counsel for a number of trucking companies and litigates trucking cases in a multitude of state and federal jurisdictions across the country.  Tim serves on the board of directors and is the president-elect for the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA).

Matt Smartnick’s practice is predominantly devoted to transportation industry clients, with an emphasis on commercial carriers and operators facing catastrophic loss claims. He defends aviation maintenance facilities, municipal entities, and public sector employees in civil litigation matters across jurisdictions in Michigan and Ohio.

Also joining the Cleveland team are associates Abagale McCurdy, Anthony Nicholson, Alyssa Pijanowski, and Joseph Stefanko.

Associate Devin Bembnister joins the firm’s transportation and logistics group out of the firm’s Columbus office, which last expanded when Crabbe, Brown & James joined in January 2024.
